In February 2005, the Kroger
store in Union, Ky. performed a lighting renovation to the Produce Department in
order to highlight fruits and vegetables. The intent is to draw the eye of the
consumer and to present a warmer and more inviting feeling of the space. The
fixtures used are Halo's new Minilume track head (L5300 series). This unit
uses a 70 watt ceramic metal halide lamp and has a field adjustable beam spread
with three different settings, (spot, flood and narrow flood), or anything in
between. Ambient lighting is provided from 2x4 fluorescent troffers. The light
levels achieved on the product range from 150 - 400 foot-candles. The ambient
light level is approximately 50 foot-candles, therefore providing an inviting
contrast for the eye of the consumer. The versatility of the Minilume fixture
provides the opportunity to meet the lighting needs for all future product
arrangements.
