King Lighting was founded by Harry King on New Year’s Day 1927 as a lighting manufacturer’s representative covering the Cincinnati and Dayton Markets. Day-Brite Lighting being the first contract procured. The company continued to prosper and passed through three generations of the King family, including his sons Bud and Dave. Dave King retired in 1992 and transitioned ownership to Mike O’Ryan and Gary Harmeling. In 2005 Greg Jones joined Mike and Gary as the third owner. The three partners navigated the company successfully through many challenging business conditions over the years. Mike retired in 2016 and Gary followed at the end of 2019. Greg welcomed Tony Rowland in 2020 as the newest owner in the agency. In 2022, Justin Lynch and Aaron Prine joined the ownership group, solidifying a strong future for King Lighting well into our second century of business.
The leadership at King has remained strong over the past 97 years. However, the success of the agency is due to the great team of people who make up King Lighting; they are the life blood of the agency. The lighting industry has gone through many changes over the years and our employees have embraced the transition of lighting technology and controls in this fast-paced high-tech environment. In 2020, as the world was stricken with a pandemic and no roadmap for such adversity, our team navigated these trying times by evolving with the needs of the industry. Their dedication and hard work are why we are creeping up on becoming a century old company. Our people ARE King Lighting. We couldn’t be prouder to call them allies and friends.
